13 on Halloween Audiobook winner & look what came in the mail!

I’m doing a giveaway this week–1 signed copy of Shadow Slayer [open to US readers]. At the beginning of Shadow Slayer, Roxie is trying to fit in as a freshman in high school but she feels like all her middle school friends are abandoning her. All you need to do to enter to win is comment here with one of your freshman high school stories about fitting in. Maybe it’s about the first time you felt like you fit in, maybe it’s about the first new high school friend you made, or maybe it’s about that place at school where you’d go to get away from it all.

Good luck!

And the winner of a the 13 on Halloween audiobook is…..Wonder Woman Terri! Congrats Terri, I hope you enjoy listening to the beginnings of the Shadow Series! Thanks for your tweets and photos, you’ve inspired me when I needed it most! <3

  1. well freshman in high school wasnt really hard even though i was overweight (still am) i was the type of person who got along w/ everyone there wasn’t really any cliques where i went to school which was probably why high school was easy for me 😉

    1. Happy you had people around you that understood you and accepted you for who you are. It’s nice when transitions like high school are easy. Thanks for sharing and for stopping by today.

  2. High school would have been pointless if I hadn’t joined color guard. It helped me grow as a person and be more confident. I felt accepted and happy, which is the best feeling in the world.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

    1. Danielle, what a great experience. There’s nothing like those kinds of friendships. I’m thrilled that you found acceptance and happiness there! I did the same thing by joining a club in my freshman year that really changed my life. It was a club called The American Field Service and we sponsored foreign exchange students to come to our high school, and many of us traveled to other countries too. I’m still friends with the friends I met in the club. Most of them were juniors and seniors when I joined, they nicknamed me “frosh,” — they still call me “frosh”…LOL!

  3. Wow, I think school was a up and down roller coaster for everyone. I had amazing friends(thanks goodness) and TRIED to say out of the drama. I use to go to the art room to get away from everyone, during the lunch hour. I loved just sitting there and drawing and being by myself.

    1. Cassie, right? Good times, bad times… thank goodness for friends! They are the one thing that hopefully never changes. One of the things that Roxie finds in Shadow Slayer is that friendships can change they don’t have to end. When I was in high school and needed to get away, I used to go to the library (big surprise, right?) with a few of my closest girlfriends. We’d get a little study room and eat lunch there and laugh our butts off. It was fabulous 🙂 Good luck with the giveaway. Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for sharing your story 🙂

  4. Awesome giveaway!! That cover is GORGEOUS!! I was lucky when I was a freshman because I went to a k-12 school so I knew everyone and we all just moved to the other side of the building. The thing that made it easier to deal with the upper class kids was that I was in the school musicals. It was a great way to meet everyone because even the football players joined the musicals 🙂

    1. Ashleyanne30, thanks so much for your kind words about the cover. I designed it myself and really love seeing my story through cover art when it’s just been words for so very long. It’s like I’m meeting new friends when I decide on the cover, dream casts 🙂 What a wonderful experience to go to a k-12. I went to a K-8, so I guess that’s why freshman year was so epic for me, high school was the first new school of my life…eeep! I love that you found happiness through the school musicals. What a wonderful way to get involved in high school! When Roxie feels like her friends are abandoning her, she tries out for the school play…The Tempest. 🙂 I used some of what happened to me in high school in the writing of this story. (of course not the evil shadows…LOL!) Thanks so much for sharing! Good luck with the giveaway.

  5. I can actully say I never fit in with the in crowd and I loved it that way. I also keep all my old friends from middle school. I guess I’m saying I always fit in with them.

    1. Tara, isn’t that fabulous? It’s a gift to feel comfortable in your own skin! Sounds like you have a wonderful group of friends and that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it? I’m so happy you took the time to share your story here. It’s great that you and your middle school friends are continuing to stay friends and roll with the changes. In Shadow Slayer, Roxie questions what’s happening to her group of friends. Good luck with the giveaway 🙂
