Excerpt from new release When Destiny Knocks by Heather White & Giveaway!

16 year old Karlie has had a pretty normal life… But when her Mom dies she is forced to move over 1,000 miles away to live with her Dad. That’s when things start getting weird. She can’t explain the earthquakes that nobody else feels, or why she no longer sleeps. But most of all she doesn’t know why she trusts Shane so much, even though his Dad wants her dead. Suddenly, Karlie’s normal life is turned upside down and she enters a world she never dreamed could really exist.

“Can I buy you a drink?” I heard a voice from behind me. I quickly turned around to find a 20-something year old guy standing inches away from me. His breath smelled like alcohol, I tried to discretely cover my nose.

“No thanks, I don’t drink.” With that I turned around and tried to ignore him. I suddenly wondered where everybody ran off to. I gazed at the fast growing crowd for sign of anybody.

The guy, full of persistence, quickly came and stood in front of me. “Oh come on, I’m hurt. You’re going to spoil all my fun.”

At this point I was more aggravated than anything. “I’m sure you will find somebody else you can buy a drink for.”

“But none would be as pretty as you.” He reached up to touch my face. My immediate reaction was to knock his arm out of the way. I guess I hit it harder than I expected, he screamed in pain. Not knowing what to do I try to walk away. As I tried to he grabbed my shoulder with force and tried to pull me back. I didn’t move. I turned back around, he reached to grab me again and I hit his arm with force this time.

I heard his bones cracking and I immediately knew I broke his arm. I knew I should feel remorse, but I didn’t. I was actually surprised with the words that came out of my mouth. “Maybe next time you try to assault somebody you will think of this.”

With that I turned around, nearly bumping into Shane.

“Is this guy bothering you?” He shot the guy an aggravated look.

“Not anymore,” I laughed and pulled Shane away. “You were a little late to save the day.”

“What happened?”

“He wouldn’t leave me alone, so I broke his arm.”

Shane’s face went from disappointment, to anger, to pride. “I’m really sorry I wasn’t there to protect you. It’s kind of hot how you handled yourself.”

“I don’t think I need protecting from guys like that. I am however scared that a demon or vampire will show up tonight. That is when I will need your help.”

“Don’t worry. You are completely safe with me.” Shane put his arm around me and pulled me out to the dance floor.

With Shane I lose myself. I forget that he’s half-demon. I forget that I’m the chosen one. I forget the world where vampires, werewolves and demons exist. I forget his Dad wants me dead. It’s just me and him – and for that moment I feel special. I feel normal.

I could feel my heart race as Shane dips his head down to mine. When his lips touch mine I feel like my heart is going to explode. In that moment I almost let myself dream of a future with him.

Before I get to deep in my thoughts a terrible feeling comes over me. I pulled back from Shane’s embrace to see his Dad standing beside us.

“Hello Karlie,” his voice was full of hate as he said my name.

I grabbed Shane’s hand and did the only thing I knew to do… I ran
