Intuition

Your book is written. Curiously, you’re finding, that wasn’t the hard part. No, writing the 50K, 100K, 200K words wasn’t hard by a long-shot. What’s the hardest part? You want to share it with the world. And you say, very publicly, “I’ve written a book.” It might be at a party. It might be a passing comment to a friend, maybe after a yoga class, or over a beer. It might be at the supermarket or in front of a clerk at a bookstore who you’re hoping might take your book on consignment. Maybe in front of an agent or editor at a conference. And the reply?

“What’s your book about?” 4 words that make every author cringe. I mean the story is so complex, there are so many layers. You’ve maybe been writing the story for a very long time. With so many plots and subplots, it’s hard to boil the book down to one concept.

Today is the final day to download Winnemucca, a small-town fairy tale, for free for the Kindle.

Winnemucca is a story about a teenage girl who awakens to her own intuition and acts on it for the very first time.

I find intuition fascinating. We all have it. “That little voice inside.” ” A gut feeling.” Yet, we seldom listen to it. Especially as teenagers. How does Ginny’s intuition awaken? She goes for a walk and imagines her feet, with every step, ask her questions she doesn’t want to hear. Questions she’s been too afraid or too compliant to ask herself.

I used to take lots of long hikes alone. When I had something on my mind, my feet and I worked everything out. This was the inspiration for the enchanted road trip.

I took an Intuition class once at The Akashic Book Shop [now called The Hummingbird and the Honey Bee] in the town where I used to live. There were about five women in the class and each Thursday night we met and were given exercises to help us get in tune to our intuition. It was fabulous. I love learning about the power of Intuition in our lives.

Do you do anything on a daily basis to get in tune to your intuition? It’s kind of like a muscle we need to exercise every day to keep it healthy. I used to meditate daily, but I’ve fallen out of the habit. Some women divine, some read cards, some write. Walking is what I do to stay in touch with my intuition. When was the last time you listened to yours?

  1. Interesting. I never thought of practicing magic as a way to increase intuition, but you’re so right. It really does help.

I’m really into pendulums and scrying. I used to use my pendulum so much I kept it around my neck at all times. Then I got into scrying, and that doesn’t need much. You can scry with almost anything, clouds, candles, water, mirrors, etc. It’s much more convenient.
