Welcome Abbi Glines author of BREATHE!

I’m thrilled to have Abbi Glines, author of the best-selling young adult romance BREATHE here at Laurasmagicday! Abbi also has another book coming soon called EXISTENCE. Abbi can be found hanging out with rockstars, taking out her yacht on weekends for a party cruise, sky diving, or surfing in Maui. Okay maybe she needs to keep her imagination focused on her writing only. In the real world, Abbi can be found hauling kids (several who seem to show up that don’t belong to her) to all their social events, hiding under the covers with her MacBook in hopes her husband won’t catch her watching Buffy on Netflix again, and sneaking off to Barnes and Noble to spend hours lost in the yummy goodness of books.

L.A.H.E. : What was the first book you fell in love with?

A.G. : Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is the first book I can remember reading over and over again. That is if we aren’t counting childhood. In that case it would be Curious George Goes to the Hospital by Margret and H.A. Rey

L.A.H.E. : What’s your favorite scene from your book?

A.G. : Jax gives Sadie a lift home from work and she needs to stop by the grocery store. Jax goes inside with her, incognito of course, and is recognized by a little girl. I may have written it but I do believe I fell in love with Jax in this scene.

L.A.H.E. : Who/what provided your greatest inspiration in writing your book?

A.G. : My ten year old daughter and her favorite teen heartthrob along with the fact celebrities do own vacation homes on Ono Island, AL which is the island that inspired the fictional island in my book.

L.A.H.E. : Was there any struggle you had to overcome in writing this book?

A.G. : Crawling over the mountains of dirty clothes to rummage through my bare cabinets in search of that one elusive clean coffee cup. In other words, making time from my first job as Mom without having the house completely fall down around our heads.

L.A.H.E. : If you made a trailer for your book, where can readers find it?

L.A.H.E. : What’s the most awkward moment you had [and wouldn’t mind sharing] in High School?

A.G. : I had the oh so wonderful privilege of getting to choose between two different high schools. The private school where my MOTHER was the head master or the public school where my FATHER was the principal. Lucky me….

Anyway, while I was attending the private school my mother managed to damage me for life. Our class had a field trip and during this field trip I was caught in the baseball dugout with a boy, kissing. Moments after returning to our classroom the familiar sound of my mother’s high heel shoes clicking against the tile floors alerted everyone she was on the prowl. I could feel every eye on me. They all knew where she was headed. Sure enough she entered my classroom and said, “Abigail, come with me please.” My face turned at least three shades of red. She’d used my full name. That was never good.

I received several swats with a belt and was sent back to the class with red swollen eyes and absolutely no makeup left on my face. It was humiliating…. but then I probably shouldn’t have been in that dugout 😉

L.A.H.E. : Do you have any advice for new writers?

A. G. : If at first you don’t succeed…. eat some chocolate, buy some new shoes, and get back to writing. Determination and thick skin is a must.

L.A.H.E. : What are you working on now? Can you share a blurb from your new book?

A.G. : I’ve just started writing a story for Marcus (read Breathe and you’ll find out who he is) but I’m also editing another YA contemporary novel I recently completed. Wild Child Publishing also has a YA paranormal I wrote entitled Existence which I believe will be released sometime next year. Not sure on specific dates yet.

L.A.H.E. : What fuel flavors your prose? [chips, popcorn, chocolate, etc….]

A.G. : Tropical flavored Twizzlers

L.A.H.E. : If you could take a trip anywhere in the world, where would you most like to go?

I’ve always wanted to go to Ireland. Spend my time tucked away on the countryside in a little cottage. Make friends with the fairies and leprechauns. Maybe even get lucky enough to have a live in ghost 🙂

Relationship’s never work in his world and as badly as he wants Sadie, he believes she deserves more. By the end of the summer, Jax discovers he can’t breathe without Sadie.

  1. Loved this interview!

I did not know there was such a thing as tropical-flavored Twizzlers. I wish I’d learned this closer to 8, a.k.a. the time I drive by the grocery store en route to work. Om nom nom.

The Buffy comment made me laugh. My S.O. just dug through his comic book collection to extract all of Buffy season 8, which was no small feat. I made it through the first seven last night and am already looking forward to returning for more! Funny to think how long Buffy holds the heart, even years after it concluded.

  2. Just finished reading Breathe…loved the characters…will you be finishing up the Sadie and Jax story or did I miss something?
