One ancient demon
No way out…
Four women who call themselves The Storytellers have gathered one hot August evening to tell tales, as they have for years. But on this night, they unknowingly evoke the powers of an ancient Mayan idol that breathes real life into their stories. The Mayan idol isn’t the only ancient being awakened. A power-hungry demon is determined to see the women fail and become enslaved to him forever.
Now the women’s lives and loves depend on surviving each other’s stories, defeating the demon and solving a centuries-old mystery.
If they survive until The End untold wealth is theirs. But some stories have a life of their own…
ADD ON GOODREADS:
“Hello?” Alex said, drumming her fingers on the kitchen counter by the bowl full of the salad that wilted with every minute.
“I regret to inform you that your colleague Professor Ronald Williams was found dead yesterday outside of Avenal.”
Alex paced around the island where she’d been cooking only minutes before. She fell onto a stool at the breakfast bar. “Ronny? Where?”
“I beg your pardon. It’s kind of loud out here, ma’am.”
“How’d it happen?”
“We’re still trying to determine cause of death. I’m calling to see if you’d be able to identify the body. You’re the only kin of his I could find.”
Identify the body. Ronald. Ronny was a Ronny. He wasn’t a Ronald. In a hot second, Alex knew this was no joke. Ronny had no one. No one but Alex. This chilled her to the bone in the record heat. Identify the body. She’d only seen him a few days ago at the lab. They’d argued over his latest Mayan discoveries, again.
“Yes. Yes. I’m a… here. Where should I go?”
“I need to you come to the morgue here in Coalinga.”
“Coalinga? Never heard of it. How far outside of Athens is it?”
“No, ma’am. Coalinga is in California. Right between Los Angeles and San Francisco.”
Alex couldn’t drop everything and leave for California. She had Cindy’s college dorm shopping to do, the fall semester to plan, dig reports to write and submit by the end of the week. Her mind raced. Her whole life had changed with a single phone call. Ronny would never call Alex again. She doubled over on the barstool.
